˙⋆✮ 1930s Bias Dress ✮⋆˙

A piece of evening attire patterned after a bias dress from the 1930s

˙⋆✮ Bias Dress Construction ✮⋆˙

The bias dress was patterned from an image of a dress from 1932, on the back of an empty pattern. After draping with muslin and creating a pattern, the pieces were cut from an outer fabric and flatlining fabric, both poly satin, and cut on the bias. The outer fabric was made in a sage green, with a bright green lining to achieve a dynamic color effect under the light due to the slight transparency of both layers. Once the main layers were sewn together, the circular shoulder drape was stitched on to cover two small straps, added for stability purposes. The drape in the back was created with two long rectangles of fabric attached at either side of the open back, and tied over the shoulder drape. Lastly, an invisible zipper was dyed to match the fabric and instaled at the center back waist.
